Larry Nassar, the former USA Gymnastics team doctor, was sentenced to up to 175 years in prison this week for sexually assaulting more than 160 girls and women entrusted to his care. In addition to the 156 brave women, including some mothers, who read victim impact statements during his seven-day sentencing hearing, the presiding judge, Rosemarie Aquilina, handed down a lengthy sentence as well as some tough words for Nassar, who pleaded guilty.

From "I just signed your death warrant" to "You do not deserve to walk outside a prison ever again," Judge Aquilina spoke words that many people were thinking.

Though some have argued her remarks from the bench went too far, they were a powerful expression of solidarity with the victims, whose earlier complaints about Nassar fell on deaf ears.
