On the drive home from her first trip to sleepaway camp, my daughter Rosie, who was 9 at the time, announced that she was a vegetarian. True to her nature, she made this announcement declaratively, confidently, and cheerfully. We learned that she’d so far avoided meat for nine consecutive meals. My husband and I supported her, but figured it would last about a week. Camp-cooked mystery meat might be easy to resist, but the smell of bacon at home is harder. |
That was seven years ago, and she hasn’t eaten meat since. Though the rest of us are still carnivores, Rosie has pulled our family toward a heavily plant-based diet. Between the personal health and global climate benefits, it’s a win-win. |
It doesn’t take much to move the needle. My colleague Simmone Shah explains how to “Swap In Just One Meatless Meal a Week for an Easy Climate Win.” Are you willing to give it a go, or are you already on board? Write to me at andrea@time.com. |
