Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered a 72-hour halt in strikes on Kyiv starting at midnight Sept. 6. to coincide with a visit from U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. |
The U.S. envoys touched down in Moscow on Saturday to meet with Putin and discuss ending the war with Ukraine, before traveling to Ukraine on Sunday, where they are scheduled to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. |
Witkoff and Kushner are real estate developers whom Trump has used as envoys in high-level diplomatic talks. Kushner is also the President’s son-in-law and served as a senior adviser during his first term. |
“They're bringing with them a proposal to end the war,” U.S. President Donald Trump told reporters in the Oval Office on Friday, calling the two “great negotiators.” |
Following the Kremlin’s announcement, Zelensky wrote on X that he had been in touch with the envoys and was “ready to observe a ceasefire in airstrikes against the cities involved in the negotiation process.” — Rebecca Schneid |

THE CONTEXT |
Who is Adam Telle, the new acting Army Secretary? |

President Donald Trump last week named Adam Telle to replace Dan Driscoll as the Army’s top civilian leader in an interim capacity. The move followed Driscoll’s abrupt resignation amid reports of tension between him and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. |
It is also part of a wider upheaval within the U.S. military’s senior ranks. About 20 military and civilian leaders have been ousted or have resigned since Hegseth took over the Department of Defense. |
Trump lauded Telle as “a Great Patriot, who is respected by all” in a Truth Social post on Sept. 3, saying Telle would take over as acting Army Secretary “effective immediately.” — Chantelle Lee |

How can you protect your identity data from hackers? |

The FBI is investigating a possible data breach that may have exposed more than 153 million driver’s licenses in the U.S. and Canada. |
Independent journalist Brian Krebs reported a dark web site that claimed to be selling digital scans of driver’s licenses. The FBI confirmed to TIME that the bureau is “looking into the incident.” |
If the service’s reported claims are true, the breach could be one of the most extensive single leaks of driver’s license data, says James E. Lee, President of the Identity Theft Resource Center. |
“This data set will continue to have massive value to the cybercriminal community for many years, and we are likely to see this service or one very similar appear again on the darknet,” Krebs tells TIME. |

How to support someone with postpartum depression |
 |

Both the “baby blues” and postpartum depression can cause sadness, tearfulness, irritability, and feeling overwhelmed after giving birth, says Dr. Kelli Burroughs, an ob-gyn and vice chair of clinical affairs and patient experience at the University of Texas Medical School in Houston. But the baby blues are generally mild, begin within the first week after delivery, and improve within about two weeks. Postpartum depression—which can also begin months after giving birth—lasts longer and interferes more significantly with daily life. |
Signs can include a persistently depressed mood; losing interest in things that usually bring joy; withdrawing from other people; difficulty eating, concentrating, or sleeping even when the baby is asleep; extreme fatigue; and feeling disconnected from the baby. |
