Stocks could remain volatile in the week ahead, as investors watch to see if technology shares can gain any traction after the sector barely stayed positive in the past week. Key to the stock market's ability to advance will be whether crypto assets stabilize.
Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies plunged after China discussed new regulations. Bitcoin tumbled to as low as $30,000 mid-week, a decline of 30%. It recovered ground but remained under pressure. "What's interesting is the market is being bullied by bitcoin," said one strategist.
The biggest item on the economic calendar is Friday's personal spending data, which includes an important inflation reading closely watched by the Fed. Earnings season is winding down but there are a few important reports including Nvidia and Costco.
