This week's horrific shooting in New York City shone an unwelcome spotlight on chronic traumatic encephalopathy, or CTE, a neurological condition caused by repetitive brain injury. The shooter, who took his own life, allegedly referenced the condition in a note found in his pocket.
I spoke to scientists about the disease who said that while there aren't yet treatments or even ways to diagnose it in living patients, CTE is a growing concern.
