I just spent several minutes staring at a blank screen, struggling to find words to start this simple, straightforward note. I’d like to blame so-called “mommy brain,” but it’s been more than a decade since I could be considered a new mom. My brain fog is more likely a result of flying on a red-eye last night.

I’d wager that most people reading this—all parents, not just mothers—instinctively agree that the mommy brain phenomenon is real. But what does science have to say? Please read “Is ‘Mommy Brain’ Real? What Happens to Your Mind and Body When You Become a Mom,” then report back on your thoughts and experiences. You can reach me at andrea@time.com
