Editor in Chief, TIME for Kids

One of the best parts of my job is writing about kids who are doing inspiring things. As an editor, I find it satisfying. As a parent, I find it humbling. Hats off to the parents who manage to raise exceptional children!

Last week, we revealed TIME’s Kid of the Year for 2024, Heman Bekele. The 15-year-old from Virginia had a big idea that has life-saving potential: a soap that could be a new and affordable way to treat and prevent skin cancer. As notable as his achievement is his humility. “Anybody could do what I did,” Heman told TIME’s Jeffrey Kluger at the lab where he’s conducting his research. “I just came up with an idea. I worked towards that idea, and I was able to bring it to life.”

We also honored five other change-making kids (learn about them using the links below). I hope you’ll find these stories as inspiring as I do.

As always, you can reach me at andrea@time.com

Best,
Andrea
