A lot has changed about the Internet in the last 27 years. Now the U.S. government is potentially poised to pass the first major legislation related to children's online safety since 1998: the Kids Online Safety Act, which was reintroduced this month and awaits a vote in Congress. My colleague Rebecca Schneid discusses what we know about it.
Keeping kids safe online is an issue near and dear to TIME for Kids, where our mission is to teach media literacy. Right now, we have an open opportunity: Our search is on for 2025–2026 TFK Kid Reporters, who will cover a variety of topics and get their stories published for a national audience. If you know young people with great writing skills and lots of questions, encourage them to apply by June 16.
