Kids Making the World a Brighter Place

Teaching kids that they can make the world a brighter place is often a top priority for parents, but it’s not easy. We often discount our kids from acts of service or don’t include them because we deem them too young. But it’s never too soon to start helping kids make acts of service part of their routine. Just ask Elaina Johnson, age 10, who has made outstanding efforts to combat food insecurity in her Colorado community. “No matter if you’re young, old, short, tall, you can always do something,” she told TIME for Kids.

It brings me great joy to announce the return of TIME for Kids Service Stars. The initiative is made possible by The Allstate Foundation, which empowers youth to serve and improve communities. Service Stars celebrates young people who are performing acts of service, both big and small, and encourages others to join in. We’re starting this school year by honoring Elaina as our October Kid of the Month.

Service Stars offers kids—along with families, educators, and community groups—the resources and inspiration needed to drive positive change in their community.
